SABR’s Luke Easter Chapter in western New York hosted a virtual Zoom meeting on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The program featured author Rob Sheinkopf discussing his new book “Baseball Imposters: The Dark Side of Fandom;” a collection of stories of grown men who have falsely claimed to have played Major League Baseball. Dubbed “Eddie Scissons Syndrome” based on W.P. Kinsella’s fictional character in “Shoeless Joe” who lied about playing Major League Baseball. Sheinkopf draws upon real life examples to explore why individuals engage in such deception and the effects of such claims.
